SicKasMe

Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, SicKasMe is a three-piece band that cannot be defined by any known genre. With influences of rock, jazz, blues, and indie music, this band produces an eclectic sound with a kick. Garrett Kimmel (bass, keyboard) and Mark Uroseva (drums), having made many attempts at forming a successful band, found the missing link when Kianna Cameron (guitar, vocals) attended practice and quickly fit the mold of frontwoman. Since that time in October 2009, the band has written nine songs and has played approximately 10 shows in the Youngstown area. SicKasMe’s first show was a Battle of the Bands where they took third place only two weeks after forming. The band plans to continue writing a wide variety of songs and performing at local and regional venues as much as possible.

good but long.
by: L.C.

Where can I hear more songs? I like the one i listened 2, but it's pretty long. I'd like to hear more songs, i just hope there not as long as the one i listened 2. Even the best songs can get boring if there super long. Theres nothing wrong with a 2-3 min long song. lol!

To Nancy (and anyone else who cares)
by: Garrett

Yes, I am leaving the band as an active member but I still support Kianna and Mark 100% in everything they do, and I am always here to help them. I'm just not going to be practicing and not playing in shows, but chances are I'll be at most every show doing something. This decision took months to make and I ultimately decided that my life needed to go in a different direction than music. I'm grateful to anyone who ever gave us a listen or bought a CD, and I am certainly appreciative of anyone that ever spoke passionately about our music or even the fact that I made the decision to leave. I am very confident that SicKasMe will go far and I can't wait to see it. Best of luck to Kianna and Mark and to the new bassist.

I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU ARE LEAVING BUT IF IT WAS YOUR CHOICE TO QUIT I THINK YOU NEED TO RECONSIDER. IF YOU ARE LEAVING BECAUSE OF A CONFLICT IN THE BAND YOU GUYS NEED TO PUCKER UP, KISS AND MAKE UP, YOU GUYS HAVE TO MUCH POTENTIAL AS YOU ARE TO MESS WITH IT! I DON'T KNOW THE WHOLE STORY AND TO BE HONEST I DON'T CARE TO, I JUST KNOW SOMEONE IS MAKING A MISTAKE HERE WEATHER KIANA AND MARK ASKED YOU TO LEAVE OR WEATHER IT WAS YOUR CHOICE TO GO. MY ADVICE IS FIX IT BEFORE YOU GUYS LOSE A GOOD THING BECAUSE IT WON'T BE THE SAME BAND ANYMORE AND THE BAND THAT IT IS RIGHT NOW IS THE BAND THAT IS GOING TO DO BIG THINGS! I AM EXTREMELY IMPRESSED WITH THE NEW VERSION OF WHERE I LIVE AND I HAVE YET TO SEE YOU GUYS LIVE! SHAPE UP, I WILL EXPECT TO SEE YOU (GARRETT) PLAYING WHEN I DO GET A CHANCE TO SEE SICKASME LIVE. I STRONGLY URGE YOU GUYS TO THINK ABOUT IT! I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN BEFORE AND I REFUSE TO SEE IT HAPPEN TO YOU GUYS!!!

Where I Live...
by: Joseph Moore of Indie Latter Magazine

SicKasMe's new release "Where I Live" is definitly a captivating listen from the very 1st note! A roller coaster of composition with hair raising harmony like we've never heard from this band until now! It portrays SicKasMe in a way they have never been heard before. The recording captures the style and emotion of the band's new song perfectly.

Definitely 2 thumbs way way up!

Music Cleveland
by: Anonymous

We hear at Music Cleveland also see every single post and we think that it's great that SicKasMe takes everything in great stride. We have never seen them perform live but would like to get to a show one day. Please keep up the great posts. Both ways, good and bad. It helps the performers the most getting true, constructive, feed back (not hurtful or finger pointing). Sometimes that doesn't come from friends.

Its this simple, If a band cannot take constructive criticism than they are in the wrong business because if you think I'm harsh just wait and see how the record labels react.

No one said they would never be good, no one said they aren't improving, my comment simply said the band needs to improve for live shows.

You are also assuming that I have not heard this band live, well guess what? I have.Same result

Same as the youtube videos.....

If a band comes onto the scene and has a slogan such as "unlike anything that has been heard before" they had better be up to back this up.
This band doesnt at this point. Its all been done before and perfected by many.

Since you wanted to be smart I'll tell you what I'm going to do which is actually a favor to this band.I'm going to use my connections in the business and have a few label A&R reps listen to this band and post there finding here on this site.

What are you going to do? Tell them they don't know what they are talking about?

Music is opinionary and if you choose to listen to this band and enjoy it that is absolutely fine and no one was insulting anyone by giving opinions in a public forum. You have your opinions and I have mine.In music though, mine may carry more weight.

Look for comments soon from the A&R reps I send this way.

The vocals sound very good at times and very bad at times. You have a really nice voice. Just don't write vocal parts that make your voice sound stained. The verses (up stroke part) of "Where I Live" is the perfect example of when your voice sounds amazing. The beginning of "Little Devil" is an example of when your voice sounds strained. Work out the vocals, it will make you guys so much more enjoyable to listen to. The Musical composition is very impressive. I really enjoy it and i am very proud to call myself a fan of SicKasMe but the vocals are not always enjoyable to listen to. Pitch isn't your main problem vocally but keep in mind you do hit a lot of sour notes usually when your voice sounds strained. My best suggestion is get another singer just for the parts of songs that have more of a drive to them, or spend a lot of time with a good vocal coach that can help with pitch, (for lack of a better work) un-straining your voice, and over all technique. Kianna, I can tell your music means everything to you, so please try my suggestions, i am sure they will help. I really am a fan of you guys, i just want to see you guys get big! Im rooting for you guys!

Sounds Great To Me!
by: Billie

Dear Mr. Anonymous,

I don't appreciate you telling me I have hearing problems for enjoying these guys! I along with many other people (judging from the other comments) enjoy there music and don't hear all the problems you say there is. You saw them on YouTube! Go see them live like i have and then your opinion will mean something! You tell them to prove you wrong, well get your ass to a show. You will eat your words! SicKasMe from what i know is a pretty young band and they still rock with the best of Youngstown Music. Mr. Anonymous please prove me wrong and base your review on more than YouTube videos.

With much love,

Billie

Thanks for the response
by: Youngstown Music Proud

Your honest response is certainly appreciated. What I know of them, they are hard-working and take their music seriously.I'm anxious to see what this band brings to the music scene in the future. It's great to have a band to get excited about, and a little hard to hear someone put them down. Hope your comments will be much more positive, in time, where SicKasMe is concerned. I believe that their fans, including me, will continue to support them along the way. SicKasMe, KEEP ROCKIN'!!!

Response
by: Anonymous

Absolutely,

The point was not to discourage but to offer advice based on experience and pure honesty.
Honestly I have found personally that when it is young people involved the people who listen are much MUCH more forgiving to the act.Not to say that Sickasme has not had ANY good performances as they may have but I've watched this band on youtube at several different gigs with the same end result.
I cannot personally recommend any particular person or school but will say that each of the members can benefit from further tutoring in their respective instruments.
The vocals are what is needed most.
Hum with the microwave as they say in the music business. The voice cannot go off key/scale on any musical phrase. If it does it is instantly recognizable to all those listening.Pronunciation is the next part.in tune first-clear and precise later. The drums need rythym training.A cheap metronome will do the trick. If he is not right on the beat, the whole band falls on its face.Bad vocals and out of time equals nails on a chalkboard to music listeners.
the Bass requires the least work of the group as far as can be heard. That is, until the percussion becomes more accurate its is hard to tell but it appears of the three members the bass is the most solid but again still needs work. Finally if music is in its Raw form, that is absolutely ok but beware that when you go public with it(re:youtube)
you are bound to be faced with the harsh realities of music buffs abroad. Im being as constructive as possible here.A record label would tear them to shreds and be incredibly unkind. It is the music business. No one ever said it was easy.Kianna has good stage presence, now needs the "raw" talent to succesfully perform.
Guitar lessons would help as well, especially in the area of music theory. It forms a foundation of musical structure that like it or not is absolutely necessary to compose enjoyable music. So sickasme-listen up, learn theory, practice your role in the band everyday. When you do this you will see a whole new world open up to you. When all this is done you may look back at this and say that person who wrote that was an idiot but somehow the mind remembers and reacts more to the bad than the good. So prove me wrong and do it!!

Raw talent ! / always room for improvement
by: Younstown Music Proud

In response to the "constructive criticism" given on June 1st...I know these "kids" and criticism is handled well. They know there is always room to improve. That's what practice is for and I'm sure that they would be open for any advise or direction that your 30 years could lend. They have links on myspace that you could continue to lend some help through by suggesting anyone ( for example a voice coach )that might be interested in improving a talented group. As far as, "not ready" for live performances....they have been well-received in all venues they have played from Youngstown to Akron and Cleveland, and have been asked to return, and have been invited by other groups that have heard them play. They must be doing some things right. You can stay in the basement only so long...if they didn't get out there, they would never have had the opportunity to hear the words of wisdom from someone like you. I think they are an awesome raw talent with only great things ahead. They are willing to work hard for it. I'm sure when your comments are read by them, they will take them in the spirit they are meant...surely not to be mean, but to help them improve themselves. Seriously, if you know of anyone that you think might be able to add some guidance to SicKasMe in the area....contact them with the info.

Act needs improvement for live scene
by: Anonymous

These raving reviews appearantly were made by people with a hearing deficiency. If you post your profiles to public forums than you must be willing to take constructive critisism of your music.Been in the music business for 30 years and here is a truthful review based on your live performances.Do not get too discouraged with the following review.Simply build on it and take a good look at the direction you are going and form your own judgement.

Here goes.Vocals-Horribly off pitch-poor pronunciation-guitar playing is sloppy and brings nothing new to the table.
drums-rythym is up and down not holding a steady beat.too much cymbal work in poor times and poor overall feel for the drums themselves..
bass- tried to follow the horrible timing of the drums which leads to the sound of a warped vinyl record.
Overall-not a pleasant listening experience.the whole band needs to decide what direction they are going and go for it after each part of this band becomes profficient in their own instruments.
Advice-Start playing cover songs as the ablility to write music is not there yet.I stress yet. With enough hard work you can do it but this band as a whole is far from ready for live shows.

Band sounds great but i have definitely heard better vocals before. VOCAL CLARITY. STRAINING VOICE. The band would be absolutely fantastic if the singer got vocal lessons or something because over all its not to bad. Sorry if i'm overly critical. Just trying to help.

ALSO NICE BASS RIFFS!

by: Joey Phillips

I saw these kids at old glory! I was so completely floored by there talent that i couldn't wait to look em up online, i couldn't believe when i heard how old they are. They sound like they've been a band for years, they have such a tight well rehearsed set. They put on an awesome show PERIOD! They were fun to watch, they have a very good stage presence, but even more important there sound is ground breaking! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND going to see SicKasMe live. I would bet my first born child that this band is the next big thing and that there going to make it big in the music business. MAKE IT OUT TO A SHOW NOW BEFORE THEY START SELLING OUT ARENAS!
