Let's face it, the club owners have gotten lazy. It used to be that the club was responsible for unearthing talented acts to bring people in the front door. Now, they want the bands to bring customers with them... A club with any self respect would pride itself on creating a vibe, in consistently bringing new, exciting talent to the audience. We used to go to specific clubs because they had a talented music director who would seek out new bands that fit the culture and the taste of "their" crowd... Now, they are lazy and it's easy to demand that the bands bring in their own customer base. This is ridiculous. It takes away from the experience by disrupting the groove to change out the band after 3 or 4 songs... To the club owners I say - Live up to your responsibility to stage great entertainment. The masses will reward you by returning to your establishment over and over - not because there is no cover charge, but because you've created a unique entertainment experience that they relate to, and that they can count on - even when they have no idea who that new band is that's playing next saturday - they actually hope that you'll be introducing them to their next favorite local artist! Do your job and reap the rewards!
